Harvest Service 2014

Harvest Festival Sunday 5th October 2014

The service began with the presenting of gifts brought for harvest tinned for Foodbank and The Hanwell Soup Kitchen with fresh produce to be sold on for the Churches charity of the year which is MIND. This took place as we sang “We plough the field and scatter”

The gifts were blessed and then we reflected on the Jewish festival of Booths using the following clip that invites us to think about the fragileness and impermanence of life … http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5bjLFOlkeo

Following the hymn To thee O Lord our hearts we raise

The reading was Matthew version of the Tenants in the vineyard

After the sermon we sang Praise and Thanksgiving and here is an instrumental to enjoy

The reflection on the reading focused on the impact of our acting out of God’s generousity and to help we watched

and then using a seed meditation from Barnabus in church that was taken from http://www.barnabasinchurches.org.uk/harvest-seed-confession/

We sang together Count your blessings

With our interecessions focus on creation and our stewardship and care that is a God given responsibility

Bringing in the sheaves led us to offering and that included a Ghanaian style thanksgiving as members of the congregation shared their reasons for thankfulness to God this day aas they offered their gifts. we also makrked the gifts that CArol had given through her work on the AV over the years

Our final hymn Come ye thankful people come led us out to share together tea coffee and cake

Thank you to all who took part
